Infrared Sauna Therapy

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? CAN I GO NUDE?

You can go nude if you would like, but be sure to put down towels to absorb your sweat. Men typically wear workout or swim trunks; women typically wear workout shorts and a tank top or sports bra. Or, for the most effective and comfortable option, choose our Body Wrap (which you may purchase from us), as it provides just enough coverage to remain modest, but does not contain too much material. Going nude vs. wearing this body wrap will not alter the effectiveness of your sauna session.

WHAT HEALTH BENEFITS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH INFRARED SAUNA, AND WHICH HAVE BEEN PROVEN OR DOCUMENTED?

All of the health benefits have been either clinically shown on the heaters or are based on studies of infrared wavelengths that precisely mimic the heaters. Sunlighten saunas are proven up to 99% effective at emitting the highest quality and quantity of infrared heat required for delivering a full range of health benefits. Infrared saunas are an effective tool for natural healing and prevention. Infrared light has the ability to penetrate human tissue which in turn produces a host of anti-aging health benefits making infrared saunas one of the “hottest” home therapies for an overall healthier living. If you want to get yourself back into balance, the benefits of an infrared sauna may be just what you need to achieve your wellness goals.

Sweating is good for you. It is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. Sunlighten far infrared sauna detoxification happens by heating the body directly, causing a rise in core temperature. This results in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside.
“Detoxification is important because it strengthens the body’s immune system and helps the body’s biochemical processes function efficiently so that we are better able to digest the nutrients in our foods. Detoxification has also been shown to be helpful with colitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD.” -Dr. Rachel West Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.

Infrared sauna heat penetrates tissue, joints, and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Pain management professionals incorporate infrared sauna heat therapy into treatment plans to decrease pain and muscle spasms
and to speed up recovery time.

Sunlighten infrared saunas induce a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows the infrared sauna benefits of using a Sunlighten infrared sauna a couple times a week lowers blood pressure. Heating the muscles with infrared rays produces an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise. Regular infrared sauna use – especially in the mid-infrared range – can significantly stimulate blood flow up to twice the normal rate.

The near-infrared wavelengths are the most effective wavelengths for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Near-infrared treatments stimulate collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone. Far infrared wavelengths target deeper down, removing toxins that can have a negative impact on your skin. Scientific research has concluded that near infrared therapy greatly enhances the skin’s healing process by promoting faster cell regeneration and human tissue growth. Human cell growth increases the repair wounds and prevents infection. Near-infrared light therapy stimulates the circulatory system and more fully oxygenates the body’s cells. Better blood circulation means more toxins flow from the cellular level to the skin’s surface to improve cell health, aid in muscle recovery and strengthen the immune system.

HOW SAFE IS INFRARED HEAT?

Infrared heat is completely safe and healthy for all living things. You can be exposed to infrared light for hours without the risk of burning. Infrared is a naturally occurring output of the sun but does not contain the harmful UV rays associated with unprotected sunlight. In fact, infrared heat is so safe, it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CERAMIC AND CARBON INFRARED TECHNOLOGY?

Both technologies are ways to deliver infrared heat, but ceramic rods have now been surpassed by carbon panel technology thanks to the latter’s ability to produce a more consistent infrared output at lower temperatures given its surface area. Ceramic rods must be brought to excessively high heats, resulting in hot and cold spots throughout your sauna. All Sunlighten saunas use carbon-based technology, and in fact, are the only carbon-based heaters with clinical backing.

WHAT IS EMF? IS IT HARMFUL TO THE BODY?

EMF (electric and magnetic fields) are waves of electric and magnetic energy radiating through space. High EMF levels are often associated with power lines. EMF is everywhere in our homes and offices. The electrical appliances we use (an electric can opener at close range emits substantial EMFs), computers, monitors, keyboards and mice, wireless modems, cordless phones, clock radios, hair dryers, mobile phones, microwave ovens and more – all produce EMFs. Although the current scientific evidence provides no definitive answers regarding EMF, there is enough uncertainty that some people want to reduce their exposure to EMF. For that reason, SUNLIGHTEN has limited the levels of EMF from their heaters as much as possible.
If you are concerned at all about EMF, their saunas contain ultra low EMF Solocarbon heaters allowing them to cancel out EMF to levels that are virtually undetectable.

WHAT TIME OF DAY SHOULD I USE THE SAUNA?

It is completely up to you and your lifestyle. There is no data showing more of a benefit in the morning or evening, however using it post-workout is shown to provide the most benefits.

I'M TAKING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION. CAN I USE INFRARED HEAT?

Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician or a pharmacist for possible changes in the effect of the drug when the body is exposed to infrared waves or elevated body temperature. Diuretics, barbiturates, and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics such as amitryptiline may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.

DOES INFRARED TECHNOLOGY INTERFERE WITH IMPLANTS (METAL, SILICONE, ETC.)?

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna.

I'M PREGNANT. ANY PROBLEMS IF I USE THE INFRARED SAUNA?

We advise you to consult with your own physician before using infrared saunas while pregnant.

IS IT OK TO USE THE SAUNA WHILE BREASTFEEDING?

Please consult with your physician, as this answer is usually yes, but may be no depending upon you specific circumstances.

CAN THE ELDERLY USE THE INFRARED SAUNA?

The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. When used with the elderly, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.

WHAT IS A.R.T?

A.R.T. stands for acoustic resonance therapy. This is available from SO Sound to deliver sound waves within your Sunlighten sauna to create a musical massage that harmonizes all systems of your body and induces the utmost in deep relaxation.

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED TO USE THE SAUNA?

The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. When using your sauna with a child, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time. A general rule of thumb is 1 minute inside your sauna per year of age for the child but always accompanied by an adult. And remember to keep you and your children hydrated, even if you don’t see them sweating.
