HEALTH COACHING
WHAT IS A HEALTH COACH?
A health coach is an expert in the process of health behavior change. Health coaches work in partnership with their clients to help them enhance personal accountability, set goals and take action to achieve and sustain health-supporting behaviors.
WHAT IS HEALTH COACHING?
Health coaching is a collaborative and personalized program that focuses on improving health and wellness. Health Coaching builds an individual’s capacity to achieve short- and long-term health and fitness goals. Participants in a health coaching program interact one-on-one with their health coach by telephone, instant messenger, email and online journal.
Unlike personal training or counseling, YOU, the client, are the expert when working with a health coach. Whether you’re working toward general wellness or a more specific health-related issue, a health coach will focus on enhancing your quality of life. Our health coaches guide, motivate, provide customized resources, and help you to set achievable goals. Health Coaches do not diagnose, prescribe, or give advice. Instead health coaches use their expertise to provide you with tools, not opinions.
The role of a health coach is unique. A health coach will not just ask you if you have done your crunches for the day UNLESS that is what you want your health coach to do. Instead, the health coach is there to help you identify and achieve whatever goals you set for improved vitality by coordinating the many resources available to you through this and other programs.
WHAT TYPE OF CLIENTS DO YOU TYPICALLY WORK WITH?
In general, clients are individuals who are motivated to improve their health. Typical goals include weight loss, healthier eating, increased exercise, or stress reduction (behaviors associated with disease prevention and reversal). However, each client is unique – many of our clients have had goals outside of these common health categories.
HOW LONG DO CLIENTS WORK WITH YOU?
It varies, but we typically encourage clients to commit to a minimum of 3 months. This recommendation is based on the principles of behavior change and allows clients to make sustainable health behavior changes through small steps and repetition while receiving ongoing support and partnership from their health coach. We do offer some shorter programs that serve to introduce clients to coaching but still allow them to build confidence for change through repetition and health-enhancing strategies. Change takes time and anywhere between eight to twelve weeks seems to be a sweet spot for feeling real shifts and progress. After this amount of time, you will have typically gone through all the highs and lows of your personal emotional behavioral cycle, giving us a chance to work with the entire spectrum of who you are as a unique individual.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL HEALTH COACHING TAKE?
The time you devote to health coaching is entirely at your discretion. Communication between you and your Personal Health Coach will be as often as needed and will be determined on an individual basis. You will be paired with a health coach who will remain with you throughout your entire health coaching process. Communication between you and your health coach may occur every day, just once per week, or even less whether it is by email, journal or a combination of both.
WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON REFUNDS?
We bundle coaching in packages. The amount you pay depends on the package you select. Once you select a package and agree to pay, there are no refunds.
You can, however, cancel your subscription at any time if you should decide that you no longer want to commit to coaching.
